Those who haven’t tried massage before might think it’s an awkward idea. Massage is actually a perfect way to relax. Massage anxieties quickly pass once a skilled therapist begins to execute the magic of his/her craft. For the record, first time massage seekers should first try Swedish Massage. It’s the simplest form there is.

First time massage clients are often cynical about the healing effects of massage. But as soon as they emerge out from the room, they will definitely have something to say on how relaxing the experience was. Swedish Massage Therapy is the most ideal modality that demonstrates how relaxing massage therapy is. It consists of basic movements and strokes that include effleurage or long sweeping strokes, petrissage or kneading motion, friction or applying deep pressure to a specific spot, and tapotement or tapping of muscles. Swedish Massage Therapy involves a less intense pressure level. Other forms of massage can turn off newcomers because it applies more stronger pressure and sometimes cause slight muscle soreness.

Notwithstanding the simplicity of its form, Swedish Massage Technique still offers benefits like pain relief, relaxation, improves blood circulation, enhances flexibility and boosts immune system. If you are looking for the best Swedish Massage in Los Angeles, contact Massage Revolution Back & Neck Relief Center.

Refloxology Massage is skyrocketing as an alternative therapy for various maladies. Ancient Chinese and Egyptians were documented to have applied same concept in treating certain illnesses.

In Refloxology or Zone Therapy, the reflexologist applies pressure to particular areas in the hands, feet and ears. These areas have connections to other areas of the body. When these specific zones are manipulated, it provides relief and healing to those afflicted body parts it represents.

Here some benefits you get from Refloxology Massage Therapy:

  • Enhances nerve functions – Through Refloxology Massage, numerous nerves in the body are stimulated. Thus, enhances their function and reactivity.
  • Improve energy levels – It increases the metabolism and energy creation process of the body as it promotes normal functioning of various organs.
  • Promotes good circulation – It improves the blood and oxygen cycle of the entire body. This means vital organs can receive sufficient oxygen which it requires to function normally.
  • Provides relaxation – Reflexology can open neural pathways and the free-flowing neural process puts your mind and body in a calm relaxing state.
  • Stimulates Nervous System – When neural pathways are opened, it also improves brain’s ability to process inputs more effectively.
  • Eliminates headache and other body pains – The massage therapy can relieve muscular tension and eliminates stress which is a predisposing factor of certain pains such as headache and migraine.
  • Flushes out toxins – The bladder and urinary functions are also improved through zone therapy. Thereby, toxins are eliminated properly out from the body.

If you’re like millions of other Americans, you’ve experienced back pain, neck pain, or both. But whether the pain has developed recently or it’s been going on for a long time, you’re not doomed to suffer aches, soreness, and restricted range of motion for the rest of your life. Neuromuscular massage therapy, also known as trigger point massage therapy, can provide relief.

The body is complex. All of the muscles, joints and other tissues are linked together with a special kind of connective tissue called fascia. Injury, overuse, repetitive movements and stress are just some of the things that can cause tension to build up in your muscles, eventually causing trigger points in back, neck, and all muscles.

Neuromuscular massage techniques involve applying varying degree of pressure on trigger points which are located in the back, neck or elsewhere. A neuromuscular trigger point therapist applies pressure using the fingers, knuckles, or elbow. Muscles in spasm hurt, and may be painful to the touch. Neuromuscular trigger point therapy can relieve that sensitivity, restoring your muscles to their normal, pain-free state.

Because trigger points, whether in the neck, back or other locations are often tender, you may experience some discomfort, but it should not cause an overwhelming sensation of pain. The best description is that the neuromuscular massage should ‘hurt so good.’ (For those of you who like trivia, this is also called the ‘Hedonic Level.’) Because of this, it is important that you feel comfortable talking to your therapist about what you are experiencing in order to find the right level of healing pressure.

In the day or two following the neuromuscular massage, any residual soreness should fade, and tight muscles should loosen noticeably over the next several days to weeks. The rate and amount of improvement you feel will also depend on other factors, such as your workload and stress levels.

Trigger point massage therapy is one of the best ways to alleviate or eliminate pain in the neck and back. While many people experience total relief after a single session, others may choose to schedule regular appointments to manage stress and chronic pain, including pain from old injuries. Bring us your aching back. Bring us your sore neck. The massage and bodyworkers at the Back and Neck Relief Center are professionally trained in trigger point massage therapy and neuromuscular massage. You could be pain-free today.

Frozen shoulder is a condition causing severe pain. It involves sudden onset of pain caused by a series of muscles tightening in the shoulder area. The underlying cause does not materialize abruptly. The condition is due to a muscular imbalance rooted from numerous factors with the most common being strains and inactivity.

The body is quite effective in adjusting and compensating for muscular imbalances and injuries. The bodily adjustments can and do extend for long periods of time. Therefore, you may not feel much muscular or skeletal discomfort even though there’s increasing muscular compensation taking place. But as you might guess, the body also has limitations to this cover-up. When it reach that point, any minimal movement can trigger muscular spasm and drive the imbalance into new and severe source of localized pain.

Massage Revolutions neuromuscular massage therapy is a highly effective treatment in relieving and eliminating frozen shoulder pain. This massage therapy eliminates muscle spasms and hyper-contraction in the tissue by correcting the structural imbalances that forms the compensating muscular pattern. The treatment will pinpoint the greatest source of pain like ischemic tissues or muscles lacking of blood supply due to tightening. Neuromuscular massage therapy will locate the specific contributory muscle imbalances thus enabling precisely located massage treatment to the effected area.

Cannabidiol or CBD is an extract of the cannabis plant. It has been proven in clinical studies to offer anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects. CBD may also be blended with other well-documented pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory supplements such as arnica and turmeric for maximum pain relief. Many conditions can be alleviated by a CBD massage: sore muscles from gardening or working out, injuries, arthritis, and even anxiety. A CBD massage is like bodywork cranked up to eleven, offering extra long-lasting pain relief.

CBD can come from hemp or it can come from marijuana. CBD is not the same thing as THC (the psychoactive component in marijuana) and CBD is not addictive. For better or for worse, a CBD massage will not get you high.

We actually produce cannabinoids inside our body. Research is ongoing, but CBD from the cannabis plant does not appear to interact directly with our system. Instead, it seems to encourage the body to use more of its own cannabinoids, kind of like a one-upsmanship contest. Cannabinoids influence many of the body’s systems, including appetite, memory, immune response, and the production of the feel-good brain chemical, serotonin.

Looking to reduce pain is probably the number one reason people go for a massage. Pain relief is one of the main benefits of massage and bodywork and because CBD has analgesic (pain-relieving) properties, it can supercharge this effect, offering you extended relief.

Inflammation is the bane of modern life, causing pain, disease, and premature aging. CBD is not only anti-inflammatory, it has also been shown to have antioxidant qualities. A CBD massage can reduce inflammation, easing soreness and achy joints. Less inflammation will not only reduce pain, it can also help the body to heal faster.

Anxiety is a serious problem today. Massage and bodywork can be highly effective in reducing stress and anxiety, and CBD can enhance relaxation even further. In studies, CBD has been shown to reduce social anxiety.

CBD is usually well-tolerated and does not cause dependence. A CBD massage can help reduce or eliminate chronic pain by lessening inflammation, soreness, inflammation and irritation. A CBD massage is an excellent natural alternative to the unwanted and dangerous side effects of prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

This blog post is for all of you who suffer from asthma. This disease is brutal but thankfully new medicines and treatment techniques emerge to improve the asthmatic’s quality of life. Consider a 100% natural treatment to address your asthma. Consider Reflexology Massage or Zone Therapy as a means to effective mitigate your asmatic condition.

Reflexology Massage Los Angeles is an alternative medicine which involves applying pressure to specific points and areas on the feet, hands, or ears. Reflex points correspond to various internal organs and systems. When these points are pressed it promotes healing and balances the energy flow in the body. The goal of Reflexology Massage for Asthmatics is to improve circulation and overall health. The center of the energy is balanced as zones on the hands and feet are manipulated. By pressing the reflex points, a direct signal is sent to the nervous, circulation, and respiratory systems.

Reflexology Massage Los Angles also teaches asthma sufferers to stay calm in a high-stress situation and thus helps them to breathe easier. More often than not, asthma attacks are triggered by increased stress levels. Going to reflexology sessions regularly can help asthmatics learn to control their anxiety during stressful situations overtime.

Scientists may not know what causes trigger points or even exactly what they are, but one thing everyone can agree on is that trigger points hurt, and the solution is often trigger point massage.

Sometimes called myofascial trigger points, these small, sensitive areas are usually about the size of a penny but the zing they give to your muscles when you press on one feels a whole lot bigger. The pain may stay local right beneath the trigger point, or you may feel it elsewhere. For example, trigger points in the neck may hurt only on site, or they may refer pain up into the head, or down into the low back. They may even hurt in multiple places simultaneously.

Trigger points are not equal opportunity trouble-makers. They target certain areas of the body, the back in particular. Trigger points in the lower back, hips, shoulders and neck are the most common sites and, unsurprisingly, they are frequently the culprit of back and neck pain.

Trigger points are one of the key symptoms of fibromyalgia and people with fibromyalgia frequently experience trigger points in the same places on the body. In fact, trigger points are one of the diagnostic tests used to determine if a person has fibromyalgia, but trigger points can spring up due to many other reasons as well. Poor posture, overuse, injury, trauma and surgery are all potential sources of the problem. Trigger points can also sometimes mimic other issues, such as headaches, migraines, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, and arthritis.

Because trigger points can refer pain to other areas, rubbing the sore spot yourself may not help, but that doesn’t mean you’re stuck with back or neck pain. Myofascial release and trigger point massage are special types of bodywork that are particularly effective in relieving trigger points. By releasing the connective tissue (aka fascia) that surrounds the muscle, the trigger points can be disarmed.

Trigger point massage can alleviate or completely eliminate the knots in your muscles that are causing your pain. It is possible to feel a significant or total release of restricted muscles right away, and your pain may even disappear after a single treatment. Regular treatments can help manage stress and pain from chronic problems, including old injuries. The neuromuscular massage therapists and bodyworkers at the Back and Neck Relief Center are professionally trained in the technique of trigger point massage and myofascial release. We’re here to help.

Massage Revolution - Neck Pain

The expression ‘a pain in the neck’ exists for good reason. If you’ve never woken up with a stiff neck, you’re in the lucky minority. Neck pain can ruin your day and keep you from giving your all. If you suffer from chronic neck pain but don’t want to pop pain pills all the time, neuromuscular massage and bodywork may be the natural solution for you.

Why does your neck hurt after sleeping? Sometimes neck pains are simply the result of sleeping wrong. Your neck got twisted, there was a cold draught, or maybe you had to sleep in an unfamiliar bed, or perhaps you’ve been experiencing extra stress lately. Maybe all you need is a good night’s sleep and the pain disappears. But if that’s the case, you probably aren’t reading this article.

Neck pain can make it hard to concentrate on other things like work or enjoying time with your family and friends. So if you’ve switched up your pillow and the position you sleep in, made changes to your diet and tried going to bed early, and still your neck hurts, give us a call. Our neuromuscular massage therapists in Los Angeles can help.

Studies show that sleep position isn’t always the cause of muscle pain in the neck. It is sometimes the type of sleep. People who have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, wake too early or don’t find sleep to be restorative are far more likely to feel pain than those who get good-quality sleep. This loss of sleep can disrupt the healing cycle that normally takes place while you are asleep. Worse, the pain might be the reason you’re waking up, contributing to the vicious cycle.

Neuromuscular massage therapy and bodywork can help break that cycle by relaxing the muscles of the neck and restoring them to their correct position.

Note: In certain situations, neck pain can indicate a more serious problem. If the pain persists, it could be due to arthritis, worn joints, or an injury such as whiplash. If the pain is severe or if your neck is twisting to one side, you may have acute torticollis. This condition can be due to a number of factors including infection, and medical intervention may be required. Our chiropractic doctors will evaluate your individual situation and find the right course of treatment for you. Contact us!

Expectant mothers can take proactive measures to positively effect changes in their body during pregnancy. Hormonal, physical, and mental challenges related to pregnancy can seriously and negatively affect mood and stress. A safe way to relieve anxiety and tense muscles is via Prenatal Massage.

Carrying a child shifts the mom-to-be’s center of her gravity. This puts a great deal of stress on the back, neck, abdominal muscles and shoulders. Pelvic joints become less stable because the ligaments tend to relax during pregnancy. The additional weight tends to ache the lower back.

Prenatal Massage Los Angeles can address these discomforts. Our Therapeutic Massage for Pregnant Women will help her relaxed both physically and mentally as this muscle manipulation can help improve mood and lower stress levels. It can also aid in reducing prenatal depression and anxiety. Ultimately, prenatal massage can improve labor outcomes for both mother and child.

I was so excited to get to talk with comedienne Paula Poundstone on her podcast about the benefits of deep tissue and neuromuscular massage and bodywork. Paula is extraordinarily funny, and although we laughed our way through the interview, she was able to articulate a lot of fears that keep people from trying bodywork (including a very specific one involving a long metal pole with a hook on the end), even when they’re in pain.

Rational fear of metal hooks aside, Paula pointed out another thing many people are afraid of: being judged. Our therapists are trained professionals. We are looking at your muscles and body alignment, not thinking that you need to drop a few pounds.

Paula also mentioned the fear of letting one rip in front of the massage therapist. Once again, as professional neuromuscular massage therapists and bodyworkers, we know this is normal, even a good thing! Passing gas, rumbling stomachs, moaning and other sounds (so ably recreated by Paula), they’re all signs that the bodywork is working! Once again, we are here to help, not to judge.

Surprisingly, outspoken Paula admitted she is afraid to say if the pressure is too much and hurts. It is very important to let your therapist know if he or she has crossed your pain threshold.  Healing occurs at the Hedonic level, the place where it ‘hurts so good.’ We are always willing to back off and do not subscribe to the ‘no pain, no gain’ theory.

Another concern that was mentioned was that some places Paula had been to seemed to offer a bunch of ‘woo-woo’ hokum and quackery, like balancing an avocado seed on your back. She wanted to know how much of massage is based on belief versus scientific evidence. This is where we feel our neuromuscular massage  and trigger point massage therapists really stand out. At Massage Revolution’s Back & Neck Relief Center, we pride ourselves on being the leader in the nation for evidence-based bodywork. We want to help as many people as we can live healthier, pain-free lives without having to resort to surgery or pharmaceuticals.

As is the case with all things, different strokes for different folks and if you’re just looking to relax, a Swedish massage will probably be more your speed. But if you suffer from chronic pain, if you have trouble sleeping or if your pain interferes with everyday activities, neuromuscular massage, trigger point massage, advanced deep tissue and bodywork may be the answer for you.

* Important note: For those who listened to the podcast, you will be happy to know that the Butterfinger taste-test had no lasting effect on my ability to use adjectives.

Migraine is a common type of headache that affects many people. It is characterized by recurrent moderate to severe pain which affects one-half of the head. Patient may also experience sensitivity to light, smells, or sounds, eye pain, and sometimes nausea and vomiting. There are oral medications that offer temporary pain relief but not often a path to eliminating the condition.

At Massage Revolution Back & Neck Relief Center, migraine treatment services offer a proven path to addressing the root cause of your migraine problem. The treatment is delivered naturally without need for medications.

Our massage specialists employ natural remedies for migraines through a process called Neuromuscular Massage Therapy. Migraines are caused by deeply rooted tight muscles in numerous parts of the body. Knotted muscles in the shoulders (particularly the upper trapezius muscles) can cause constant migraines and headaches. They can also develop trigger points that cause pain in other parts of the body as well. Poor posture can be a contributing factor. When the neck and shoulders are out of alignment, it leads to injury and inflammation. Migraines are triggered by neck inflammation as well.

Neuromuscular massage techniques applies slow and targeted pressure over trigger points. It will help correct your migraine issues. This treatment can also help restore range of motion, eliminate pain, and improve posture. Relaxed muscles and good posture can address chronic migraine issues completely.

Do you get frequent headaches or migraines? Do you wake up in the morning with neck pain after sleeping? Do you have pain in the front of the neck? If you answered ‘yes’ to any or all of these questions, Massage Revolution here in Manhattan Beach can help clarify many of the common causes of headaches.

Headaches may seem like a minor complaint, but they cost big in terms of dollars and lost productivity. How many days of work do you think people lose, collectively, due to headaches each year, just in the US? A hundred? A thousand? A hundred thousand? Try 157 million. (Yes, there really are people who track this sort of info.) Want to take a guess at how much that adds up to in terms of absenteeism and medical bills? We’ll just tell you: around $50 billion.

It’s estimated that for around 20% of patients who suffer from chronic headaches, their pain starts in the neck. Tight muscles in the neck are also a common cause of migraine headaches. If you suffer from regular headaches, you probably don’t want to be popping pills all the time, and that’s where we come in. Neuromuscular and trigger point massage therapy is the most effective manual treatment for neck muscle pain and headaches.

Trigger points (sore spots that may radiate pain elsewhere) are common with chronic pain and the causes of migraine headaches quite often. Typically, the trigger points for neck pain are found in the neck itself, and also the upper back. Our specially-trained advanced neuromuscular massage therapists determine where the trigger points are located, as well as where best to apply treatment in order to restore your muscles to their normal, relaxed, pain-free state.

Like many (if not most) complementary and alternative therapies, massage often gets treated like the red-headed stepchild when it comes to serious research. But there are new studies that prove that patients who suffer from neck pain have more pain-free days with high quality evidenced-based neuromuscular trigger point massage and bodywork than those who do not use massage therapy.

The results of these studies help everyone — patients and practitioners — to find the best treatment for optimum results for the most common causes of headaches. While these guidelines are helpful, we custom-tailor the session to your individual needs. Contact us!
