Massage Revolution - Trigger Point Massage Therapy

While people often say they have a knot in their muscle, the muscle fibers are not actually twisted and looped together. These knots are often trigger points, or tiny spasms in your muscles. Some people only have a few, while others have dozens. Some may be inactive, but when they become active, the pain can make it hard to think about anything else. Trigger point therapy can help release those knots and relieve your pain.

While active trigger points definitely make themselves known, they can be tricky little gremlins. You may feel pain at the site of the trigger point, or you might feel it elsewhere. The pain can be scattered almost like buckshot, and the path the pain follows can be unexpected and complicated. Trigger points in low back muscles can cause pain in the hips, thighs, or even in your stomach, while trigger points in neck muscles can send pain shooting up into your head, down your arms, or both. Trigger points can mimic other issues, such as headaches, sinus problems, sciatica, and seemingly unrelated ailments like digestive problems.

The pain of active trigger points can feel sharp, but it can also feel hot, cold, tingly, or numb, amongst other things. But don’t be fooled by inactive or latent trigger points. They aren’t necessarily innocent bystanders. While they may not cause intense pain, then can cause the muscles to feel stiff and sore, and their potential to become active is still there, lying in wait like a coiled snake, ready to strike at any time.

Neuromuscular massage was developed to designed to relieve trigger point pain, whether active or latent, and it often works in a single session. The therapists at Massage Revolution’s Back and Neck Relief Center are all specially trained in trigger point therapy. We’re definitely not fans of knots and we want to help free you from your trigger point pain, whether it be in the low back, neck, or elsewhere. Come see us and let us turn you into fans of neuromuscular massage.

Massage Revolution - Trigger Poing Massage for Back and Neck Pain

If you often feel pain in your neck, back or elsewhere but cannot figure out the cause of the problem, trigger points may be the culprit. Trigger points are tiny, painful spasms in the muscle and they can cause stiffness, tingling and other sensations, not just at the site of the trigger point, but all over the body. Trigger points are not well understood by the medical community, so if you’ve searched in vain for a solution to your back pain, look no further. Neuromuscular massage can free you from trigger point pain.

A primary trigger point is a place where the pain starts, but left untreated other trigger points may develop, including satellite trigger points. A satellite trigger point, as the name implies, happens close to the primary trigger point, usually in the same muscle or in the ones nearby. Satellite trigger points may occur as a result of overuse or inactivity.

For example, if your job involves a lot of sitting in front of a computer, you might develop trigger points in neck muscles from poor posture, leaning forward, or just from staring at the screen for too long. Satellite trigger points can cause a whole series of painful spots throughout the neck, up into your head and even down the arms. Too much sitting can also cause trigger points in low back muscles, sending pain through the back, hips, and down into the legs.

Sometimes a structural problem, such as scoliosis, may cause multiple primary trigger points. This in turn can create multiple satellite trigger points, resulting in pain over an entire section of the body. When this happens, it is what is called diffuse trigger points. Satellite trigger points often resolve once the primary trigger points are released, but sometimes the satellites must also be treated in order to get complete relief.

The therapists at Massage Revolution’s Back and Neck Relief Center are specially trained in trigger point therapy. We know how to find trigger points, whether primary, satellite or diffuse, and release them, often in a single session. Give neuromuscular massage a try and you could be pain-free today.

Massage Revolution - Trigger Point Massage Therapy

Did you know that trigger points are far and away the most common cause of pain in your back and neck muscles, as well as elsewhere in the body? Neuromuscular massage and trigger point therapy can release these sore spots, restoring your muscles to their natural, pain-free state.

Trigger points are tiny knots that develop in muscles when they are overworked or injured. A single injury can cause pain that goes on for weeks, months, years, or even a lifetime.

When you get injured, your body’s natural reaction is to protect itself, and it does this by changing the way you sit, stand, or move. Unfortunately this protective reflex can put strain on your muscles, and cause a cascading effect of dysfunction throughout the body.

The truth is, we all have trigger points. It’s really a question of how much yours affect your daily activities. Trigger points can cause a wide array of symptoms from headaches to heartburn to heart arrhythmia. Trigger points in the neck can cause things like headaches, blurred vision and TMJ, while trigger points in the back can cause chronic low back pain, sciatica and even a herniated disc.

One of the ways you know you have a trigger point is that the pain refers, meaning you feel it somewhere else in the body. For example, a trigger point in the neck may refer up into the head or down the arms, while a trigger point in the low back may refer pain down into the legs.

Another way you know you have a trigger point is that rubbing the spot where it hurts doesn’t seem to help. This is because the problem originated elsewhere, but the massage therapists and bodyworkers at Massage Revolution have all been trained in neuromuscular massage and trigger point massage therapy and know how to find the origin of your pain.

Lose the pain and gain freedom from sore, achy muscles. You deserve to be pain-free. A single session of neuromuscular massage can have you footloose and pain-free by the end of today.

Massage Revolution - Neuromuscular Massage Therapy in South Bay, Los Angeles
If you’re like millions of other Americans, you’ve experienced back pain, neck pain, or both. But whether the pain has developed recently or it’s been going on for a long time, you’re not doomed to suffer aches, soreness, and restricted range of motion for the rest of your life. Neuromuscular massage therapy, also known as trigger point massage therapy, can provide relief.

The body is complex. All of the muscles, joints and other tissues are linked together with a special kind of connective tissue called fascia. Injury, overuse, repetitive movements and stress are just some of the things that can cause tension to build up in your muscles, eventually causing trigger points in back, neck, and all muscles.

Neuromuscular massage techniques involve applying varying degree of pressure on trigger points which are located in the back, neck or elsewhere. A neuromuscular trigger point therapist applies pressure using the fingers, knuckles, or elbow. Muscles in spasm hurt, and may be painful to the touch. Neuromuscular trigger point therapy can relieve that sensitivity, restoring your muscles to their normal, pain-free state.

Because trigger points, whether in the neck, back or other locations are often tender, you may experience some discomfort, but it should not cause an overwhelming sensation of pain. The best description is that the neuromuscular massage should ‘hurt so good.’ (For those of you who like trivia, this is also called the ‘Hedonic Level.’) Because of this, it is important that you feel comfortable talking to your therapist about what you are experiencing in order to find the right level of healing pressure.

In the day or two following the neuromuscular massage, any residual soreness should fade, and tight muscles should loosen noticeably over the next several days to weeks. The rate and amount of improvement you feel will also depend on other factors, such as your workload and stress levels.

Trigger point massage therapy is one of the best ways to alleviate or eliminate pain in the neck and back. While many people experience total relief after a single session, others may choose to schedule regular appointments to manage stress and chronic pain, including pain from old injuries. Bring us your aching back. Bring us your sore neck. The massage and bodyworkers at the Back and Neck Relief Center are professionally trained in trigger point massage therapy and neuromuscular massage. You could be pain-free today.

Frozen shoulder is a condition causing severe pain. It involves sudden onset of pain caused by a series of muscles tightening in the shoulder area. The underlying cause does not materialize abruptly. The condition is due to a muscular imbalance rooted from numerous factors with the most common being strains and inactivity.

The body is quite effective in adjusting and compensating for muscular imbalances and injuries. The bodily adjustments can and do extend for long periods of time. Therefore, you may not feel much muscular or skeletal discomfort even though there’s increasing muscular compensation taking place. But as you might guess, the body also has limitations to this cover-up. When it reach that point, any minimal movement can trigger muscular spasm and drive the imbalance into new and severe source of localized pain.

Massage Revolutions neuromuscular massage therapy is a highly effective treatment in relieving and eliminating frozen shoulder pain. This massage therapy eliminates muscle spasms and hyper-contraction in the tissue by correcting the structural imbalances that forms the compensating muscular pattern. The treatment will pinpoint the greatest source of pain like ischemic tissues or muscles lacking of blood supply due to tightening. Neuromuscular massage therapy will locate the specific contributory muscle imbalances thus enabling precisely located massage treatment to the effected area.

Massage Revolution - Neck Pain

The expression ‘a pain in the neck’ exists for good reason. If you’ve never woken up with a stiff neck, you’re in the lucky minority. Neck pain can ruin your day and keep you from giving your all. If you suffer from chronic neck pain but don’t want to pop pain pills all the time, neuromuscular massage and bodywork may be the natural solution for you.

Why does your neck hurt after sleeping? Sometimes neck pains are simply the result of sleeping wrong. Your neck got twisted, there was a cold draught, or maybe you had to sleep in an unfamiliar bed, or perhaps you’ve been experiencing extra stress lately. Maybe all you need is a good night’s sleep and the pain disappears. But if that’s the case, you probably aren’t reading this article.

Neck pain can make it hard to concentrate on other things like work or enjoying time with your family and friends. So if you’ve switched up your pillow and the position you sleep in, made changes to your diet and tried going to bed early, and still your neck hurts, give us a call. Our neuromuscular massage therapists in Los Angeles can help.

Studies show that sleep position isn’t always the cause of muscle pain in the neck. It is sometimes the type of sleep. People who have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, wake too early or don’t find sleep to be restorative are far more likely to feel pain than those who get good-quality sleep. This loss of sleep can disrupt the healing cycle that normally takes place while you are asleep. Worse, the pain might be the reason you’re waking up, contributing to the vicious cycle.

Neuromuscular massage therapy and bodywork can help break that cycle by relaxing the muscles of the neck and restoring them to their correct position.

Note: In certain situations, neck pain can indicate a more serious problem. If the pain persists, it could be due to arthritis, worn joints, or an injury such as whiplash. If the pain is severe or if your neck is twisting to one side, you may have acute torticollis. This condition can be due to a number of factors including infection, and medical intervention may be required. Our chiropractic doctors will evaluate your individual situation and find the right course of treatment for you. Contact us!

Massage Los Angeles

I was so excited to get to talk with comedienne Paula Poundstone on her podcast about the benefits of deep tissue and neuromuscular massage and bodywork. Paula is extraordinarily funny, and although we laughed our way through the interview, she was able to articulate a lot of fears that keep people from trying bodywork (including a very specific one involving a long metal pole with a hook on the end), even when they’re in pain.

Rational fear of metal hooks aside, Paula pointed out another thing many people are afraid of: being judged. Our therapists are trained professionals. We are looking at your muscles and body alignment, not thinking that you need to drop a few pounds.

Paula also mentioned the fear of letting one rip in front of the massage therapist. Once again, as professional neuromuscular massage therapists and bodyworkers, we know this is normal, even a good thing! Passing gas, rumbling stomachs, moaning and other sounds (so ably recreated by Paula), they’re all signs that the bodywork is working! Once again, we are here to help, not to judge.

Surprisingly, outspoken Paula admitted she is afraid to say if the pressure is too much and hurts. It is very important to let your therapist know if he or she has crossed your pain threshold.  Healing occurs at the Hedonic level, the place where it ‘hurts so good.’ We are always willing to back off and do not subscribe to the ‘no pain, no gain’ theory.

Another concern that was mentioned was that some places Paula had been to seemed to offer a bunch of ‘woo-woo’ hokum and quackery, like balancing an avocado seed on your back. She wanted to know how much of massage is based on belief versus scientific evidence. This is where we feel our neuromuscular massage  and trigger point massage therapists really stand out. At Massage Revolution’s Back & Neck Relief Center, we pride ourselves on being the leader in the nation for evidence-based bodywork. We want to help as many people as we can live healthier, pain-free lives without having to resort to surgery or pharmaceuticals.

As is the case with all things, different strokes for different folks and if you’re just looking to relax, a Swedish massage will probably be more your speed. But if you suffer from chronic pain, if you have trouble sleeping or if your pain interferes with everyday activities, neuromuscular massage, trigger point massage, advanced deep tissue and bodywork may be the answer for you.

* Important note: For those who listened to the podcast, you will be happy to know that the Butterfinger taste-test had no lasting effect on my ability to use adjectives.
