This is your time, your massage, your comfort level. Some people have gender preferences, some don’t. It is perfectly acceptable to request a female therapist. It is well known in the massage industry that very often, women prefer female therapists and men often have a preference for female therapists as well. Some people request and prefer male therapists only as well thinking there’s more strength and deeper pressure. As you get more and more experienced receiving massages, you may open up to the possibility of a male therapist. Many people who at first wanted only female therapists find that once they try a male therapist, they actually enjoy the additional strength and pressure a male therapist can offer.
Absolutely not! The massage therapist walks you to the treatment room to discuss your goals and desires for your session. After that, they leave the room for you to undress to your comfort level and to get under the top sheet and blanket. They wait and always knock before entering, making sure you tell them it’s okay to come in the room.
Many people do completely undress for their massage, including all undergarments. You are always completely covered and draped at all times by a blanket and sheet and the only area your therapist uncovers is the area they are working on.
However, it’s most important to undress to your comfort level, as it’s also completely normal to keep on your underwear during the massage. It is completely your choice and the massage therapist is always respectful about it.
It’s YOUR time, so your therapist is open to you leading the conversation whether to talk. It’s fine to talk with your therapist during your massage, and also fine to just remain quiet, relax, and “check out” for an hour. It’s helpful for your therapist to check in with you during your session about pressure, yet feel free to tell your therapist right from the beginning that you wish to remain quiet the entire session.
If you have specific aches, pains, or chief complaints, sometimes it’s really good for your therapist to check in with you on pressure or feedback.
It is important to let the therapist know if you are in pain during the session. It is perfectly acceptable to ask questions and talk during the massage, but it is also appropriate to simply receive the massage and remain completely quiet during your session.
If you enjoyed your service, tips are always appreciated. A standard tip in the massage industry for a satisfied massage is on average $25.

Neuromuscular Massage is an incredibly effective form of bodywork that typically gives a lot more RELIEF from muscular aches and pains. It works your muscles very specifically, targeted, and detailed.
- FIRST, your neuromuscular therapist assesses your posture for muscle imbalances and which muscles are tight and they need to release to improve your alignment.
- SECOND, your neuromuscular therapist releases your tight muscles very thoroughly and the trigger points inside them, to give you more longer lasting relief.” It works your muscles more specific by treating the complete muscle belly, muscle attachments from origin to insertion, and all the “landmine knots” called trigger points to give you a lot more RELIEF. Trigger points are proven in the medical community to be at the root cause of 80+% of muscular pain Click here to learn more about neuromuscular massage
Neuromuscular Massage Therapy is a complete “system” for treating and relieving muscular aches and pains.
- It begins with a detailed posture assessment to see what muscles are pulling you out of alignment, and what muscles need to be released to bring you back into more alignment and balance.
- Neuromuscular gives you a lot more lasting relief from aches and pains by treating your muscles and soft-tissues much more detailed and laser focused, by treating the complete muscle belly, the attachments, tendons, and also the “trigger points” which are scientifically proven to be at the root cause of 80+% of muscular pain.
- So neuromuscular treats and balances your posture and your pain, all in 1 treatment!
Most people who like deep tissue, LOVE neuromuscular massage because it’s exactly what they’ve been looking for. They’ve been wanting someone to target and angle right into their knots, and typically find that neuromuscular massage does this best.
Deep tissue massage is often more about pressure and general aches and pains, which is highly effective as well. It’s less about laser-focusing in on specific trigger points causing your pain.
Swedish massage is your typically classic relaxation massage, with lighter pressure and strokes.
Neuromuscular massage is the most advanced form of bodywork and soft-tissue therapy, which means a lot more time, energy, and training goes into learning how to perfect it. Just like “fine wine” costs more than “house wine”, neuromuscular massage is truly the fine wine of all types of massages. Ultimately, if your goals are to relieve aches and pains, you’ll spend less money with the lasting relief you get over time from neuromuscular massages.
