This blog post is for all of you who suffer from asthma. This disease is brutal but thankfully new medicines and treatment techniques emerge to improve the asthmatic’s quality of life. Consider a 100% natural treatment to address your asthma. Consider Reflexology Massage or Zone Therapy as a means to effective mitigate your asmatic condition.
Reflexology Massage Los Angeles is an alternative medicine which involves applying pressure to specific points and areas on the feet, hands, or ears. Reflex points correspond to various internal organs and systems. When these points are pressed it promotes healing and balances the energy flow in the body. The goal of Reflexology Massage for Asthmatics is to improve circulation and overall health. The center of the energy is balanced as zones on the hands and feet are manipulated. By pressing the reflex points, a direct signal is sent to the nervous, circulation, and respiratory systems.
Reflexology Massage Los Angles also teaches asthma sufferers to stay calm in a high-stress situation and thus helps them to breathe easier. More often than not, asthma attacks are triggered by increased stress levels. Going to reflexology sessions regularly can help asthmatics learn to control their anxiety during stressful situations overtime.
Scientists may not know what causes trigger points or even exactly what they are, but one thing everyone can agree on is that trigger points hurt, and the solution is often trigger point massage.
Sometimes called myofascial trigger points, these small, sensitive areas are usually about the size of a penny but the zing they give to your muscles when you press on one feels a whole lot bigger. The pain may stay local right beneath the trigger point, or you may feel it elsewhere. For example, trigger points in the neck may hurt only on site, or they may refer pain up into the head, or down into the low back. They may even hurt in multiple places simultaneously.
Trigger points are not equal opportunity trouble-makers. They target certain areas of the body, the back in particular. Trigger points in the lower back, hips, shoulders and neck are the most common sites and, unsurprisingly, they are frequently the culprit of back and neck pain.
Trigger points are one of the key symptoms of fibromyalgia and people with fibromyalgia frequently experience trigger points in the same places on the body. In fact, trigger points are one of the diagnostic tests used to determine if a person has fibromyalgia, but trigger points can spring up due to many other reasons as well. Poor posture, overuse, injury, trauma and surgery are all potential sources of the problem. Trigger points can also sometimes mimic other issues, such as headaches, migraines, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, and arthritis.
Because trigger points can refer pain to other areas, rubbing the sore spot yourself may not help, but that doesn’t mean you’re stuck with back or neck pain. Myofascial release and trigger point massage are special types of bodywork that are particularly effective in relieving trigger points. By releasing the connective tissue (aka fascia) that surrounds the muscle, the trigger points can be disarmed.
Trigger point massage can alleviate or completely eliminate the knots in your muscles that are causing your pain. It is possible to feel a significant or total release of restricted muscles right away, and your pain may even disappear after a single treatment. Regular treatments can help manage stress and pain from chronic problems, including old injuries. The neuromuscular massage therapists and bodyworkers at the Back and Neck Relief Center are professionally trained in the technique of trigger point massage and myofascial release. We’re here to help.

Expectant mothers can take proactive measures to positively effect changes in their body during pregnancy. Hormonal, physical, and mental challenges related to pregnancy can seriously and negatively affect mood and stress. A safe way to relieve anxiety and tense muscles is via Prenatal Massage.
Carrying a child shifts the mom-to-be’s center of her gravity. This puts a great deal of stress on the back, neck, abdominal muscles and shoulders. Pelvic joints become less stable because the ligaments tend to relax during pregnancy. The additional weight tends to ache the lower back.
Prenatal Massage Los Angeles can address these discomforts. Our Therapeutic Massage for Pregnant Women will help her relaxed both physically and mentally as this muscle manipulation can help improve mood and lower stress levels. It can also aid in reducing prenatal depression and anxiety. Ultimately, prenatal massage can improve labor outcomes for both mother and child.
I was so excited to get to talk with comedienne Paula Poundstone on her podcast about the benefits of deep tissue and neuromuscular massage and bodywork. Paula is extraordinarily funny, and although we laughed our way through the interview, she was able to articulate a lot of fears that keep people from trying bodywork (including a very specific one involving a long metal pole with a hook on the end), even when they’re in pain.
Rational fear of metal hooks aside, Paula pointed out another thing many people are afraid of: being judged. Our therapists are trained professionals. We are looking at your muscles and body alignment, not thinking that you need to drop a few pounds.
Paula also mentioned the fear of letting one rip in front of the massage therapist. Once again, as professional neuromuscular massage therapists and bodyworkers, we know this is normal, even a good thing! Passing gas, rumbling stomachs, moaning and other sounds (so ably recreated by Paula), they’re all signs that the bodywork is working! Once again, we are here to help, not to judge.
Surprisingly, outspoken Paula admitted she is afraid to say if the pressure is too much and hurts. It is very important to let your therapist know if he or she has crossed your pain threshold. Healing occurs at the Hedonic level, the place where it ‘hurts so good.’ We are always willing to back off and do not subscribe to the ‘no pain, no gain’ theory.
Another concern that was mentioned was that some places Paula had been to seemed to offer a bunch of ‘woo-woo’ hokum and quackery, like balancing an avocado seed on your back. She wanted to know how much of massage is based on belief versus scientific evidence. This is where we feel our neuromuscular massage and trigger point massage therapists really stand out. At Massage Revolution’s Back & Neck Relief Center, we pride ourselves on being the leader in the nation for evidence-based bodywork. We want to help as many people as we can live healthier, pain-free lives without having to resort to surgery or pharmaceuticals.
As is the case with all things, different strokes for different folks and if you’re just looking to relax, a Swedish massage will probably be more your speed. But if you suffer from chronic pain, if you have trouble sleeping or if your pain interferes with everyday activities, neuromuscular massage, trigger point massage, advanced deep tissue and bodywork may be the answer for you.
* Important note: For those who listened to the podcast, you will be happy to know that the Butterfinger taste-test had no lasting effect on my ability to use adjectives.

Did you know massage therapy is rapidly rising as an alternative to surgery for numerous painful ailments to include severe muscle pain? Painful muscle “trigger points” are activated when a muscle is overused or traumatized. The resulting inflammation from muscle overuse or trauma causes pain within the affected muscle. Trigger point pain periodically is miscommunicated by the brain and erroneously assigned to another site of the body. In some cases, trigger point pain can only be correctly isolated by specialists like massage professionals.
Trigger point therapy performed by trained massage therapists is the current rave within the pain management industry. This type of remedial massage directly put pressure to targeted points on tender muscle tissue. Often compromised muscles are weaker and cannot extend to their full range of motion, therefore, other muscles are compelled to action. Muscles compelled to perform tasks they normally do not accomplish can compound pain by creating new trigger points themselves. By applying direct pressure to trigger points through trigger point massage, you are promoting sufficient blood circulation to the area and flushing away toxins. The trick is always to accurately define the precise location of the trigger points and to apply the correct level and type of massage pressure to the same.
At Massage Revolution here in Los Angeles, on a daily basis we treat patients with severe muscle pain. Although treatment varies from patient to patient, we are proud to produce realized pain relief in as little as a single treatment.

Deep muscle tissue can become stiff and painful when you move your body incorrectly, when it is repeatedly stretched, has trigger points, or used repetitively in exercise or sports. Essentially, when this happens stiffness and trigger points can restrict range of motion because of the pain that results when you try to move it. This pain is a result of muscle knots called trigger points and scar tissue that occurs when the muscle is overly strained.
Deep tissue sport massage can help relieve this pain and stiffness. This specialized therapy is applied to athletes and sports enthusiasts who commonly experience deep muscle tissue stiffness from practicing and performing the same sport or exercise regularly. Deep tissue sport massage therapy helps release muscle knots and scar tissue. Slowly, it stretches muscles to increase range of motion and flushes away lymphatic toxins. This will help hasten the healing process of strained muscles, trigger points, and correct muscle imbalances.
Delayed onset muscle soreness is expected after deep tissue sport massage therapy. This is due to muscular micro-tears that occurs within the fascia. Patients are shown how to perform light stretches to prevent the muscles from healing in a shortened state and rather, to regain their full health with better range of motion and muscular contraction.

One of the more common coincidences in modern medicine: people who sit a lot have low back pain. The number of biomechanical reasons for this are several, but one of the most common is surprisingly simple: there’s a trigger point in your gluteus maximus muscle that is caused by sitting in a typical office chair, and it refers pain directly to the area just above your tailbone. One case study showed a young woman who came in complaining of low back pain after suffering a minor injury; two visits to a neuromuscular therapist who treated her right gluteus maximus later, she was back to work “assuming all duties without pain.” If you want to get lasting relief from back pain, neck pain, sciatica, and more, then call and book neuromuscular massage today!

One of the most common complaints in America today is the ‘tension headache,’ a pain at the base of the skull that will often be accompanied by pain running up behind the ear, pain at or just in front of the temple, or more rarely in the ridge above one eye. The name ‘tension’ headache implies one may be shouldering too heavy of a burden…and in fact, that metaphor may be more literal than anyone thinks. A study published in the journal Headache showed that people with myofascial trigger points in the trapezius muscle had tension headaches that were longer and more painful than those without. By no coincidence, all of the regions mentioned above are areas where shoulder pain is known to refer — so the next time the base of your skull is pounding and no amount of NSAIDs or meditation will help, call a trigger point therapist and ask them to take your shoulder off the grindstone. If you want to get lasting relief from back pain, neck pain, sciatica, and more, then call and book neuromuscular massage today!

When Amazon announces that they’re developing a new tablet specifically geared toward gamers, you know tablets have become genuinely mainstream — but they’re not without their issues. It’s all-too-common to see someone hanging their head forward, looking down at their latest level in Candy Crush, and then look up…and wince. That’s because the levator scapulae — the muscles that hold up your head — can get quite irate when you abuse them by looking down for long periods of time. One study of twenty-two young phone-prone women found that “constant trigger points and creptitation (popping/cracking of the shoulder)” were common to their complaints — so if you can’t afford to put your tablet or phone down, look into addressing the trigger points directly. If you want to get lasting relief from back pain, neck pain, sciatica, and more, then call and book neuromuscular massage today!

The levator scapulae muscle is the most common cause of “stiff neck” complaints, with limited and painful movement. In a clinical case study of active trigger points, the levator scapulae muscle was the most commonly involved neck/shoulder girdle muscle. In another study of 200 normal young adults, 20% of subjects were found to have trigger points in their levator scapulae muscles. Neuromuscular Therapists relieve these trigger points as well as provide stretching for more permanent result. Neuromuscular Trigger Point Massage in Manhattan Beach:The #1 Reason For Headache Pain from Back of Head to Eyes
Headaches from the back of the head, to the forehead and eyes, that feel like the whole side of the heads hurts, almost like a migraine, is common. The suboccipital muscles are the deepest muscles at the base of the skull and the major muscular source of this head pain. In this case study of 160 female office workers, 63% of the 72 subjects with disturbing neck symptoms had suboccipital tenderness to palpation, very likely from trigger points. These muscles often develop trigger points from forward-head posture, prolonged looking upwards, and emotional tensions. Neuromuscular Therapist specialists are able to release trigger points in the suboccipital muscles quite effectively.
