Best Neuromuscular Trigger Point Massage for Headache Pain: The Classic ‘Base of the Skull-to- Behind the Eye” Headache.

The Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy released a significant study into the source of "behind the eye" headaches a few years ago, and they found that a minor majority (just over half) of behind-the- eye headaches that come with matching ache in the base of the skull are associated with active trigger points in the suboccipital or splenius cervicis muscles — the muscles in your neck that stretch and contract the length of your neck, and let you tip your head from side to side. A qualified neuromuscular/trigger point massage therapist should be able to release such a trigger point in minutes, and 'train' the muscle to stay released over the course of a few weeks, making the headaches a memory quickly and easily.

Neuromuscular Trigger Point Massage in Los Angeles: When Your Pain in the Butt Is a Much Deeper Problem.

There are several reasons why someone might suffer pain in the coccyx — the tailbone. A study in Switzerland showed that when the ‘standard’ tests don’t seem to reveal anything, about 40% of people with idiopathic tailbone pain were actually suffering from trigger points in the quadratus lumborum. That’s the muscle that holds your ribs and your pelvis together, and works to keep you stable when you bend at the waist. The trigger points that cause this pain are on the inside of the muscle, deep, next to the spine, so they can be easy to miss and hard to fix — but a skilled Neuromuscular Massage Therapist can get in there and fix that pain in the butt once and for all.

Neuromuscular Trigger Point Massage: The Hidden Culprit Why Your Neck Won’t Rotate Side to Side Very Well.

The levator scapulae is a strong muscle that connects your shoulder blades to the base of your neck. When you have pain between your neck and shoulder blades, but far more commonly when you have the classic stiff, can’t-look-over-your-shoulder pain, a locked-up levator scapulae is often the cause. A qualified Neuromuscular/Trigger Point Massage Therapist can unlock the muscle by probing the fibers carefully and finding the trigger points that are causing the muscle to seize up. Once those points are released, the muscle relaxes, and suddenly you aren’t moving like Frankenstein anymore! Call today and request Neuromuscular Massage for longer lasting relief!

Pain Management Massage Los Angeles: Spondylolysis Associated with Degenerative Joints in the Spine.

Spondylolysis is defined as a defect or stress fracture in the pars interarticularis of the vertebral arch. While the cause of spondylolysis is unknown, many factors are thought to contribute to its development. A recent study set out to determine the effects of this condition on the facet joints in the lumbar spine, which help make it possible to flex, twist, and bend. Researchers evaluated the radiographs of 107 patients with L5 spondylolysis and compared them with those of individuals without the condition and found that the patients with lumbar spondylolysis had more severe degenerative changes of the facet joints than those without spondylolysis. The findings suggest that individuals with spondylolysis are at a greater risk for developing degenerative joint issues in the lumbar spine. Mental Attitude: Radon Exposure May Increase Alzheimer’s Disease Risk.

A new study that compared data concerning radon exposure and deaths attributed to Alzheimer’s disease (AD) appears to indicate a correlation between ionizing radiation exposure and the development of this neurodegenerative condition. The authors of the study conclude, “Our findings, like other studies, suggest that ionizing radiation is a risk factor for AD. Intranasal inhalation of radon gas could subject the rhinencephalon and hippocampus to damaging radiation that initiates AD. The damage would accumulate over time, causing age to be a powerful risk factor.” Call our medical massage center today for more longer lasting relief!

Diet: Maternal High-Fat Diet Raises Breast Cancer Risk Across Generations.

A high-fat diet may increase the risk of breast cancer across generations. Using mice, researchers observed that first- and third-generation female offspring that had been exposed to a high-fat diet while in utero were at a greater risk of developing breast cancer. The findings suggest that a high-fat diet should be added to known causes of lifestyle-related breast cancer, which currently include alcohol consumption, lack of physical exercise, obesity, choice of contraceptives, hormone therapy, and not breast-feeding.

Wellness/Prevention: Food Safety When Packing for a Picnic.

Picnicking can be a lot of fun, but nothing can ruin your outdoor meal faster than a case of food poisoning. To reduce your risk, the United States Department of Health & Human Services suggests: packing any meat, seafood, poultry, sandwiches, summer salads, fruit, vegetables, and dairy products in a cold cooler; fill the cooler with ice to help it stay colder longer; and store it in a shady spot.

Neuromuscular Trigger Point Massage in Los Angeles: The Secret #5 Step to End Back and Neck Pain Naturally.

The key to eliminating pain and preventing re-injury is to do steps 1-5 in order.  Now that you’ve completed Steps 1-4, seeing a qualified neuromuscular massage therapist to eliminate pain-causing trigger points, fixing posture, restoring flexibility and strength, you’re now ready to move on to Step #5, Building Endurance. Again, you must release your trigger points first, since they are the root cause of 80%+ of chronic muscle pain.  You can’t stretch a muscle well unless the trigger points are released first.  Also, when you do strength training too soon, like so often in physical therapy, you run the risk of re-injury and more pain.  Get your trigger points released and then move on to the strengthening later. Continue your flexibility and strength exercises, but add in isometric and other endurance-building exercises. This ensures that even if an extreme demand on your muscles suddenly arises, you’re able to handle it without the pain coming back. If you’re not sure how to accomplish these goals, you want to consult one of our expert Neuromuscular Massage Therapists at our Los Angeles and Manhattan Beach location. With their care and your own focus, you’re able to eliminate the majority of the back pain in your life. You should be almost entirely pain-free by this time before you do any strength training; what we’re doing here isn’t so much solving the old problem as making sure that it doesn’t come back. Neuromuscular Trigger Point Massage in Los Angeles: The Secret #3 Step to End Back and Neck Pain Naturally.

Now that you’ve finished steps 1 and 2, releasing pain-causing trigger points and fixing your posture, it’s time to move on to Step #3, Restoring Flexibility. There’s a significant difference between a relaxed muscle and a flexible muscle. A muscle that helps you stand and walk correctly may very well still be too short and tight to respond effectively to the demands made as you perform everyday tasks like carrying groceries in from your car. During this time, any residual inflammation can be particularly hampering; other than having the best chair for bad backs to keep your back and pelvis healthy, supplementing with a powerful anti-inflammatory  is a great idea. Neuromuscular Trigger Point Massage in Los Angeles: The Secret #2 Step to End Back and Neck Pain Naturally.

After you finish Step #1 and have a qualified neuromuscular massage therapist release the trigger points causing pain in your neck and back, it’s time to move on to step #2, Fix Your Posture. Once your muscles are done being so “angry” and allow you to stand normally, it’s time to make sure that you’re doing exactly that. Doing posture alignment exercises help you restore balance to your stance, which minimizes strain on your ligaments, muscles, tendons, and even your internal organs. And if you sit at a desk all day, it’s even crucial that you have the best chair for bad backs to keep your back and pelvis healthy. In the 1930’s Dr. Stanley Lief, a trained Chiropractor and Naturopathic Physician along with his cousin Boris Chaitow also trained in chiropractic and naturopathy experimented with neuromuscular massage treatments for muscular pain at Leif’s world-famous health resort in Hertfordshire, England. The treatment was so successful that their neuromuscular massage technique became common practice in osteopathic and sports therapy venues all over Europe.
